Chinese Embassy in Kuwait Holds Online Reception to Mark 50th Anniversary of China-Kuwait Diplomatic Relations

On 22nd March 2021, Ambassador Li Minggang held an online reception to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kuwait, attended by Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs of KuwaitAmbassador Ali Suleiman Al-Saeed on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, as well as diplomatic envoys in Kuwait, Chinese and Kuwaiti friends from all sectors and local mainstream media outlets.

 

 

Ambassador Li said that, on this momentous and historic occasion, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to extend his warm congratulations and best wishes to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf and the friendly Government and people of the State of Kuwait. In his message, President Xi pointed out that over the half a century since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kuwait, the traditional friendship between the two countries has been consolidated with the passing of time. Noting the great importance attached to the development of China-Kuwait relations, President Xi expressed his readiness to work with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf to take the opportunity of the 50th anniversary to renew the traditional friendship, deepen cooperation in various fields under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and deliver more benefits to the two countries and peoples. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf said that Kuwait-China relations are strong and continuing to develop and deepen, and that he is looking forward to further strengthening the bilateral relations and enhancing their cooperation in various fields.

 

Ambassador Li noted that Kuwait was the first Gulf Arab state to establish diplomatic ties with China, and that China-Kuwait relations have stood the test of the changing international situation and maintained sound and steady development over the past five decades.The past five decades have seen the continued deepening of mutual political trust, the broadening of mutually beneficial cooperation and the dynamic development of people-to-people exchanges between China and Kuwait. Both sides have respected and treated each other as equals, and have shown mutual understanding and support on issues concerning each other’s core interests and major concerns.Kuwait was the first West Asia and North Africa (WANA) country to sign a cooperation document with China under the BRI. In recent years, synergies between our respective development strategies have been accelerated, with fruitful outcomes in areas such as economic and trade, financial, energy and infrastructure.In the face of the sudden pandemic, China and Kuwait have stood together and supported each other in fighting against COVID-19, which has interpreted the deep connotation of a community of a shared future for mankind with tangible actions, and demonstrated the profound friendship between our two peoples.

 

Ambassador Li said that under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, the Chinese people have embarked on a new journey to fully build a modern socialist country. Similarly, under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf, the Kuwaiti people are working towards advancing the implementation of the Kuwait Vision 2035 to make the country more prosperous and advanced.China is ready to work with Kuwait to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, push for in-depth development of the China-Kuwait strategic partnership in the new era, and join hands for a new splendor!

 

 

For his part, Ambassador Ali expressed warm congratulations on the 50th anniversary of China-Kuwait diplomatic ties, affirming the solidly grounded and evolving relations between the two countries. He also pointed out that bilateral cooperation in fields such as economic and trade, investment, energy and infrastructure have achieved important outcomes within the BRI framework. Kuwait is keen on joining hands with China to further promote the China-Kuwait strategic partnership.
